《Nineteen Eighty-Four（1984）（英文版）》读后感100字

It was written by George Orwell and it was published in 1949.The main character of this novel is Winston Smith.

What kind of society Winston lived in? It was a morbid society, it was suffocating, the country was controlled by the Party IngSoc, and the Big Brother was the spiritual leader of the party, in order to the control everything, the party forged the fact that Oceania was always at war with Eurasia, and everyone was monitored by the telescreen. And the Party encouraged children to be a spy, to monitor their parents、teachers and friends. The marriage was abnormal, the only recognized purpose of marriage was to beget children for the service of party, and it wasn’t allowed to get divorced in case of no children.Anyone who incurred the displeasure of the party simply disappeared, maybe he was vapourized or being killed.No thoughts,no different opinions,no friends ,no trust, no innovation, no improvements, only the worship of the party, you must follow the step of the party, no matter it was right or wrong. That was a totalitarian society.

Winston’s job was to re-edit and re-write the history, who controlled the present controls the past,and he was bound to control the future, with the purpose of strengthen the power of the power, he had to invent a new story、new people and so on.Winston hated that kind of state, his mother disappeared when he was a little child, he wondered if there could be any difference, he fell in love with Julia, in order not to be found and arrested, they even tried to take part in a revolution against the party, but unfortunately, they were caught. They were tortured in prison(especially in Room 101), they betrayed each other, and even everything, their belief were broken into pieces and being re-shaped, they ended up in a form of subversion of the self, and they were going numb in order not be tortured physically and mentally.

It was not only a prediction of social problem,but a kind of warning.

“How does one man assert his power over another? By making him suffer.”I don’t agree with the answer, it should be respect、character and love.I can’t believe what if I lived in that kind of society. I would read the book twice, cause it’s really captivating and worth reading again, more comments next time.
